This is a full-time ranger under the supervision of the Park Manager. This position includes duties as both a Park Ranger and as a member of the park maintenance staff. Responsible for supporting the department’s mission by conducting and providing input into various natural resources and preservation projects, promoting good public relations, providing security to park users, enforcing the Code of Iowa and Conservation Board rules, as well as working with the maintenance staff to perform duties such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, grounds maintenance, and janitorial duties within the park system. Incumbent will work an FLSA approved law enforcement work schedule which may include some evenings, weekends, or holidays. DESCRIPTION: August 30, 2010 through November 26, 2010 The intern will assist in planning and conducting environmental education programs for schools, youth groups and the general public. The intern will also assist with developing interpretive displays and events and other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Prefer minimum one year of college with coursework in education, natural or historic resources or related field. Applicant must have some knowledge of Iowa’s natural resources and the ability to express ideas clearly and concisely orally and in writing. High school diploma or GED required. Applicants must also have the ability to work in all weather conditions and a variety of terrain. Varied schedule including nights and weekends required. Must possess a valid State of Iowa driver’s license and be able to pass a background check. Compensation: The position will be paid $10 per hour (37-40 hours per week for 13 weeks).
